Optimising AMBISOL Fatliquor Performance

Achieving consistent softness and temper using AKSOL's AMBISOL range requires correct temperature, pH, and offer rate:

1

Neutralise to pH 5.5–6.0 before AMBISOL addition for maximum penetration.

2

Emulsify AMBISOL at 60°C; add to drum at 55°C. Run 45–60 minutes.

3

Fix with formic acid to pH 3.8–4.0. Exhaust bath for maximum uptake.

4

For softest hand: combine AMBISOL SW + AMBISOL SS at 8–12% on shaved weight.

Syntans

Selecting the Right SOLTAN System

AKSOL's extensive SOLTAN syntan range covers every retanning need. Selection guide:

1

Full, round handle → SOLTAN RE or SOLTAN MF (8–12%) + AMBISOL GV.

2

Tight, fine grain → SOLTAN NS or SOLTAN NL (6–10%) at pH 4.0–4.5.

3

Dyeing evenness → SOLTAN DR or SOLTAN DRP as levelling agent before dye.

4

Powder grades (SOL POWDER B) preferred when high-chrome exhaust is required.

Finishing

Building Finish with AKSOL Binders & Lacquers

Use AKSOL's binder + lacquer system for durable, aesthetic results:

Base coat: AKSOL BINDER 113M or 163B by roller — 2 passes minimum.

2

Colour: SOLMENT pigment paste (15–25%) + AKSOL BINDER S.

3

Top: AMBILAC 47 (gloss) or AMBIMATT SS (matte). Plate 70–90°C, 2–3 bar.

Troubleshooting

Common Issues & Solutions

Most frequent issues and corrective actions:

Uneven colour: Use SOLTAN DR before dye. Fix float slowly with formic acid.

Loose grain: Check retanning pH. Use SOLTAN GS for tightening.

Finish cracking: Check leather moisture 14–18% before finishing. Add FEEL SOFT 279 to base.
